Archiving Golfer Result Files FILE: FA.HLP
At the end of each summary period, it is necessary to "clean-out"
the old results so that the file for the next period contains
results only from that period. To do this, you could simply
delete the old file and start a new one. This is fine if you do
not plan on going back at the end of the year to see where you've
been. Besides, the cost of a good quality disk is not worth
scrimping.
Archiving a file means RENAME. If you are familiar with DOS, then
this is immediately clear to you. All that DBK does to the file is
rename it so that your next period entry will create a new file
using the same old name.
Archiving a file is done using the Combine/Split Facility. This is
accessed through the Main Menu Utility option.
All that is needed is a new name and DBK will rename the current
period file for you. Do not forget that this should be done AFTER
you have summarized the file and have indicated to DBK that this was
an end-of-period summary.
Archiving files is a good DBK practice and takes only a couple of
minutes. It is suggested that after each month, you use this option
to protect your data investment.
